Halloween Transmission
Happy Halloween, Samhain, and Día de Muertos to all!
There is a lot happening right now, in my life personally and in the universe as a whole. My 30th birthday is in a few days and I’m going on a trip to celebrate. I like to do a spread any time I travel to prepare myself for the trials ahead, but this time is unique because it’s also during Mercury retrograde.
Nothing is scarier than that, right? Personally, I’m not sure I buy into the hysteria that surrounds it, things are generally a mess regardless of which way Mercury is heading, but the powers of the universe are a mysterious thing so I certainly don’t rule it out as a factor.
This on top of the fact that communication is always difficult during the guarded and secretive Scorpio season makes this time extra challenging. On the other hand, communication with the other side is heightened due to the thinning of the veil. So this is a great time to receive messages from beyond, even if you don’t really wanna talk to anyone living.
I was trying to figure out a way to navigate everything that is happening right now without getting overwhelmed. So I took the traditional 3 cards spread I usually do to check in with the past, present, and future for each sabbat, combined it with elements from my travel spread, and added some areas for checking in with communication. The result is something fun and new.

Transmission is a word that encompasses physical movement and genetic inheritance and well as communicative movement through time and space. I laid out the cards in the shape of antennas so the message comes in loud and clear.
My Personal Reading
I actually drew this spread twice because the first time when it came up with almost all cups I thought I hadn’t shuffled well enough, but apparently that’s just the way it is. It makes sense since Scorpio is a water sign that this would be a time primarily ruled by emotion and intuition.
The transmission from the past is represented by the Knight of Cups. It bears a message of raw emotion. It suggests I should follow my heart, intuition, and creativity. The transmission from the present is represented by the V of Cups. I am currently feeling lost and unsure of how to go forward due to many setbacks. I need to find a way to pick myself back up. The transmission from the future is represented by the IV of Cups. My future self may find some contentment but warns me against getting too comfortable.
The signal for interpersonal communication is a positive one. The III of Cups suggests that I will happily celebrate with my family and friends. Despite feeling like I want to withdraw, now is the time to lean on those who love me and enjoy their company. The signal for impending travel is the Page of Wands. It is a positive sign for undertaking a new journey. I can’t help but think this is speaking both literally and figuratively. Though I am excited about the trip, I need to step carefully to make the most of it. Finally, the signal from outer space is received via the Page of Cups. The signal strength of positive emotions, new ideas, and intuition during this time of planetary transition is strong. A pleasant surprise may be on the horizon.
Overall this spread was reinforcing and comforting.
